This is one of two types of Wilson covers with the Rule Britannia design. Type I shows the lion with 2 eyes open, Type II is the “Winking Lion” variety, with a single eye open.

All the covers of the Rule Britannia design have a Type C imprint on the cover front dated 1898, although a Type I variation exists with the date of 1899.

Henry Gates, in his work "Canada: Patriotics, The Wilson Series" refers to 4 variations of this cover, which he designated “Rule Britannia”.

The covers identified by Gates have either a blank back or Song Back 6. Each of those varieties come in 2 main colours, either a tawny colour or a yellow colour.
